Sujith Kumar G.S. Mandya:

Riding along the streets of Mysore, as an art student at Shree Kala Niketana School of Art, what haunted the imagination of Sujith Kumar was not the magnificent palace or the people moving without any hurry along the crowded streets of the laid-back city. Sure, he would sketch monuments and human faces to his heart’s content but rather than the beauty and solitude of humans it was the cycles and auto rickshaws that provoked Sujith’s imagination, thus kindling his creative power. “Cycle is a dream and a carrier of life for the rustic Indian middle class. Every time I look at the same cycle it appears to be a new one to me; in a way it is the cycle of life…” he says. “I can’t see any humanity in city life, there is no peace…. It’s all rat race, but in villages you see the real humanity living in peace…” In a way Sujith talks about going back to nature with his tiny images of cycles. Sujith Kumar’s “Traffic City” is a clever composition depicting in an abstract way the chaos of traffic in the city. The black lines are strong and cross hatched throughout the composition creating an abstract illusion of rush and mayhem. The use of a deep red adds to the title of the composition, though visually we cannot see the other elements, there seems to be a general feeling of unrest. All his compositions focus on one main theme and color and his excellent linear quality depicts the theme. “As a student in Mysore it was a routine for me to draw people, places and objects to my heart’s content,” says this young artist. “My concern had always been to create an object with minimum strokes.” Sujith’s cycle is riding back to nature. From the crowded city scapes to the lush green landscapes of serenity. It is a ride back to the never-ending green..

The Best Dresses for Pear-Shaped Women

A woman with a pear-shaped figure has narrow shoulders, a relatively small bust, tapered waist and comparatively large hips and thighs. If you have a pear-shaped figure, shop for a dress that accents your upper body and draws the eyes away from the hips and thighs to create an illusion of balance.

Neckline Highlights

A dress that highlights the neckline, such as a halter dress, will draw the eye to your slender neck and shoulders. The bottom part of the dress should skim over your hips and thighs, not cling to them.

Empire Waist

A dress with an empire waist and a fitted bodice draws the eye to the petite upper body of a pear-shaped woman. The skirt should flare only slightly or hang straight with little volume.

Strapless or Spaghetti Straps

Strapless dresses or spaghetti-strap dresses give the illusion of broader shoulders and thus balance out the body so your figure looks less bottom-heavy.

Embellished Tops

A dress with an embellished bodice and a plain skirt puts the emphasis above the waist and minimizes your fuller hips and thighs.

Snug Waistline

A dress that caresses your waist and flares out slightly at the hips creates the flattering look of an hourglass figure. Take care that the waist is not too tight.

Teeth With Braces: Foods to Avoid

When wearing braces, it’s very important to know what kinds of foods to avoid. Foods containing sugar should be minimized, and other kinds of food particles and bacteria can get stuck behind the braces and lead to tooth decay.

Sticky Food

Any foods that will pull or get stuck in your braces are best to be avoided; that includes all types of chewing gum, gummy candies, caramels, fruit roll-ups and licorice.

Hard and Crunchy Food

Popcorn is especially troublesome because the bits, pieces and hulls slip into tiny crevices. Avoid hard candy, nuts, chewing on ice, corn on the cob, pretzels, hard cookies (unless you soften them with milk first) and hard or chewy crusts of any kind. If a food is overly crunchy when you bite into it, be cautious.

Hard Food Exceptions

You can still enjoy apples or pears, but you need to cut them into small pieces or wedges first–taking a bite without doing this can cause too much stress on your braces. You can eat raw carrots, too, but shred or grate them first.

Considerations

Brush and floss your teeth often. If you have a sugary snack, brush as soon as possible.

Warning

If you do not avoid foods that are inappropriate, you will spend a lot of extra time at the orthodontist. Damaged braces can lead to a longer treatment process.
